The Spanish Golf Federation's September 30 announcement confirms Rose and Åberg joining the field. AS's separate report corroborates their participation, the dates and the venue. Both reports identify the organizers as the source of the player announcements.
Rahm and Hatton: performance alongside eligibility
Rahm and Hatton give Luke Donald established Ryder Cup reference points. Madrid offers a chance to assess their tournament golf alongside other European candidates during the qualifying season.
The useful questions concern what they actually do during the week: how often they create birdie opportunities, how they respond when a round stalls and whether they remain competitive over four days.
For all European candidates, eligibility and performance remain separate requirements. Entering one DP World Tour event is not an announcement that a player has qualified for the Ryder Cup.
Rose and Åberg: two different selection profiles
Rose brings extensive experience, while Åberg offers a younger profile with Ryder Cup experience of his own. Watching them in the same field helps place their current form in a shared competitive setting.
Our selection analysis is that Donald will eventually need both strong individual golf and compatible partnerships. A stroke-play event cannot test a foursomes pairing directly. It can reveal whether a potential partner is controlling his game well enough to become part of that discussion.
Garcia's schedule is another story to follow
Garcia is also in the announced field. His request concerning termination of his LIV contract has drawn attention to his future schedule, but Madrid provides a different kind of evidence: tournament performance.
The contractual request does not determine his score, eligibility or selection. Keeping those questions separate makes it easier to judge both the legal development and his golf as further information becomes available.
Where the European points race stands before Madrid
The European standings are dated September 27. Matt Fitzpatrick leads that release after winning the Open de France. It does not include the later Dunhill Links victory by Adrian Meronk.
Europe's qualification window closes August 22, 2027. Six eligible players qualify automatically and Donald selects six more. Madrid is an early opportunity within that longer campaign; a good week can strengthen a player's case without resolving the final team.
