Garcia says he will play the DP World Tour in 2027 after leaving LIV Golf. He is targeting a Ryder Cup playing place at Adare Manor. Current rules, as reported by BBC Sport, leave that playing route open and bar a future captain or vice-captain role.

Players Mentioned

Sergio Garcia has confirmed he will play the DP World Tour in 2027 after leaving LIV Golf, and he wants a place on Europe's Ryder Cup team at Adare Manor. BBC Sport, The Associated Press and ESPN reported the announcement on October 29. The statement sets his schedule. It does not put him on the team.

What Garcia said

Garcia, 46, published the plan on social media on October 29. ESPN quotes the statement: "Next season, I'll be playing on the DP World Tour. This tour has been a huge part of my career from the very beginning, and I'm proud to call it home again. I'm also keeping my options open for a return to the PGA Tour."

He described strengthening personal relationships as a central part of the move. The Associated Press reports the same 2027 return to the European tour, the same open view of the PGA Tour, and his comment that he was "putting a big focus on a strong mindset and my mental health." BBC Sport likewise reports that he will play the DP World Tour in 2027, with a PGA Tour return left as an option.

He joined LIV in June 2022 and captained Fireballs GC. ESPN records two LIV titles, in Spain in July 2024 and in Hong Kong in March 2025. BBC Sport names him alongside Jon Rahm, Ian Poulter, Tyrrell Hatton and Graeme McDowell among players who have announced they are leaving. Reports earlier in October described a release from his LIV contract; that earlier step is covered in Garcia's contract release. The October 29 statement is the confirmation of where he will play in 2027.

A playing place at Adare Manor

Garcia is the Ryder Cup's record points scorer. His profile lists 28.5 points from 10 appearances, and ESPN reports that his most recent appearance was at Whistling Straits in 2021. BBC Sport records that he helped Europe to six wins in those 10 appearances. Sanctions for playing LIV events made him ineligible in 2023. He was not selected in 2025.

His aim for the next match is direct. BBC Sport quotes him: "Another goal is to make that Ryder Cup team, and to be an asset to the guys in whatever capacity that may be." ESPN reports that he hopes to play well enough to make Europe's team at Adare Manor. The Associated Press reports the same ambition for the match in Ireland in September. Competition days are September 17–19, 2027, during Ryder Cup week of September 13–19.

BBC Sport reports that, under the current tour rules, Garcia is eligible to play again but cannot serve as a future captain or vice-captain. ESPN reports that he resigned as a DP World Tour member in May 2023 and applied for reinstatement in November 2024 after reportedly paying fines for competing in conflicting events. BBC Sport reports that those outstanding fines were reported to be more than £1 million, settled so that he could be eligible for consideration in 2025.

His route back to the team is a playing place. Europe's published qualification process awards six automatic places from the Ryder Cup Points List when qualification closes on August 22, 2027. Luke Donald selects six more players in the week beginning August 30. The October 29 statement does not decide either route.

QuestionWhat October 29 establishes
Will he play the DP World Tour in 2027?He has confirmed that he will.
Is he on Europe's 2027 Ryder Cup team? No. He is targeting a playing place.
Can he serve as captain or vice-captain?BBC Sport reports that current rules bar a future captain or vice-captain role and leave him eligible to play.
Did the announcement award Ryder Cup points? No points figure was published with it.

The October 25 European points list has Eugenio Chacarra first on 571.05. Garcia does not appear on that list, and the October 29 reports do not give him a points total.

Membership, Augusta and the weeks ahead

The DP World Tour's October 12 position is that players who sign up for LIV in 2027 cannot also hold its membership. Europe requires that membership of its Ryder Cup players. Garcia's stated plan is the DP World Tour rather than the proposed LIV relaunch, so that particular conflict does not apply to the schedule he has announced. Membership formalities, results and selection remain later steps.

The same statement looks ahead to the Masters. ESPN and BBC Sport both report that he broke his driver in frustration at Augusta in 2026, drew a code-of-conduct warning, and has since said he left disappointed with his actions. He wrote that he wants to show what he has learned and that he would love to chase another green jacket. A PGA Tour return stays in the category he used himself: an option he is keeping open.

Edoardo Molinari, Francesco Molinari and Pádraig Harrington are already Europe's vice-captains for Adare Manor. Garcia's statement does not add him to that group. BBC Sport reports that the current rules do not leave him a future captain or vice-captain appointment. What can still change his Ryder Cup position is eligible play between now and August 22, 2027, and Donald's six selections after that.

The qualification tracker keeps the dated points list and the deadlines. The team watch follows candidates alongside that list. Garcia's profile holds the career match record.
